FANCY A DIRTY WEEKEND? A REAL ONE?

To celebrate Valentine’s Day we’re running a limited number of private 1.5hr wheel pottery workshops for two people.

Make it a day to remember in Margate with a romantic stroll on the mainlands, fish and chips at Pete’s fish factory. Take a peek at the latest Turner Contemporary Exhibition but really impress with a private Go Create  wheel pottery workshop for you and your partner.

We have opened a number of bookable spaces on the 10th, 11th and 18th February priced at £130. We also have a couple of Valentine’s Day itself for £175.

You’ll both have your own wheel to work from, support on hand as you try to get to grips with centring and throwing basics, and still have time to gaze into each others eyes! Have fun, make mistakes, help recycle and expect to keep about 2 pieces each…if you’re super talented! We’ll fire and glaze ready for collection in about 4 weeks time.

WORKSHOP FORMAT

Step 1: Tutor demonstration

We start the workshop with a 10-minute demonstration which provides an overview of the different stages involved.

Step 2: hands-on practice and individual practice

(i) Centering basics

Students start with centring basics (an experienced potter is on-hand to quickly correct and support students). Centering is everything and takes practice to master it.  Sure jelly blobs in contemporary ceramics has its place but lots of luck trying to drink a cup of tea out of it.

(ii) Throwing a pot

Thankfully not across the room but in fact pulling the clay up before opening it out. Playing with purpose.

FIRING AND GLAZING
We fire and glaze your best two pieces each with the surviving pieces ready to use in approximately 4-5 weeks.
