Mould Making For Slip Casting (2 days)

136 High St, Margate, Kent CT9 IJW

Mould making today is used to cast pieces for among others the fine artist, sculptor, designer and ceramic artist. You can even create moulds for glass fushion. This particular course looks at the making of plaster moulds for slip-casting, including the creation of single-part or multi-part moulds for the ceramic artist.
Some experience of clay and kiln firing is desirable but is not essential.
On day one, we’ll demonstrate different casting processes through a series of exercises, to build confidence in working with plaster and creating moulds. No prior experience of mould making is required, just a desire to cast simple objects. Prior to the workshop we’ll advise on suitable objects to perfect a mould from. There will also be studio objects available on the day for you to choose from.
You will leave this course with a strong understanding of what constitutes excellent mould-making together with confidence to design and create you own moulds. Over the two days you will have made several moulds to take home to create future casts.
NB. You’re own moulds will need to be dried out before use so we’ll practice slip casting techniques using studio moulds. You will however be able to take home any moulds that you make over the 2 days. All materials are included in the price of the workshop.
