Create your own mug, bowl, vase or ornament
This intense introductory to handbuild pottery will cover simple slabbing and coil building techniques. During the session you will make a bowl and either a cup, vase, milk jug or tea light. You don’t have to be arty – Kirsty will inspire and offer hints, tips and teach surface decoration as well as offer creative directional and technical support.
You can then choose to have your best pieces fired and glazed for an additional cost in a colour of your choice (subject to variations in the glaze itself), A regular cup costs £6 and tankards can cost up to £12 depending on the size and volume. A medium bowl would cost £6 which covers the cost of clay, glaze, two kiln firings and all the work that goes into loading and unloading of kilns, glazing and matching final pieces.
Fired pieces are available for collection approximately 4 weeks later and will be available for collection from Margate. (Pieces need to dry out thoroughly which can take up to 2 weeks before going into the kiln for the first firing. They then need to be matched up for colour choice and dipped before firing to 1200 degrees. Depending on the volume we may need to fire in different kiln loads – each process requires kilns to be fired up top temperatures and then cooled down. Final pieces then need to be sorted once again ready for collection. Occasionally pieces do not survive but we try to ensure that as many as possible do.)
This workshop is suitable for children and adults but all children must be accompanied by a paying adults. We do run some workshops just for children and young people. We keep pieces for up to 3 months after notification i.e. 4 months after the workshop date.
THIS IS ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR COURSES. ITS A FANTASTIC COURSE AND IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Had a fun morning. I wasn’t expecting to come in and get straight down to making a piece of pottery, but it was hands on all the way from the moment of arrival. Great teaching support and very friendly atmosphere.
Great morning! Looking forward to receiving our pots.
